On Sunday, April 22, 2012, a Columbia County man was arrested for burglarizing the Pentecostal Believers of the Coming of Christ Church. At approximately 8:30 a.m., church members discovered the suspect inside the church. The witnesses called the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and waited outside of the church until deputies could arrive.
Corporal Don Meyer was the first deputy to arrive on the scene and saw the suspect inside the building. Cpl Meyer ordered the suspect to exit the church. The suspect complied with Cpl Meyer’s commands and was taken into custody without incident. A screwdriver believed to be used to pry open the door was found inside the church where the suspect was standing. The suspect, Jackie Armstrong, told deputies that he broke into the church to get out of the rain.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office commends the witnesses for waiting on law enforcement to arrive and for not confronting the suspect directly. Mr. Armstrong was transported to the Columbia County Detention Facility and is being held on no bond.
