On Tuesday, April 10, 2012, an inmate that had previously walked away from the Lake City Work Release Center (FL D.O.C.) was captured.
On March, 31, 2012, Daniel L. Retherford walked away from the Lake City Work Release Center located in Lake City, FL. Detectives from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office believed that Retherford was still in the Columbia County area and have been seeking to apprehend him. Detective John Hatcher of the Sheriff’s Office discovered a possible location of Retherford at a residence located at 942 S.W. Sparrow Terrace. Deputies from CCSO along with Deputy U.S. Marshals (Fugitive Task Force) and K-9 units from the Florida Department of Corrections surrounded the residence at approximately 1:45 pm on 4/10/2012. Retherford was identified as being in the home but initially refused to surrender himself. After approximately 30 minutes, Retherford was taken into custody without incident. Two other people at the home were also arrested for being accessories.
Daniel L. Retherford was serving a sentence for Dealing in Stolen Property. Retherford had only five (5) months remaining on his sentence and would have been released.
Retherford was transported to the Columbia County Detention Facility and booked without incident. He is being held without bond.
