On Tuesday, March 6, 2012, a Physician’s Assistant in Columbia County was arrested on multiple felony charges.
The Columbia County Multi Jurisdictional Task Force began an in depth investigation in the fall of 2011 regarding alleged fraudulent prescriptions. Task Force detectives believed that John Windham, P.A., was illegally writing narcotics prescriptions to himself and others. Detectives allege that Windham had written the prescriptions without a proper medical examination and the prescriptions were beyond what was medically necessary or acceptable. John Windham, P.A, was authorized by the Medical Doctor overseeing his practice, Baya Bariatric’s, to issue prescriptions for non narcotics only. It is alleged that Windham abused his authority to write prescriptions for pain medication to himself and others.
John Windham, P.A., is charged with 16 felony counts of Obtaining a Controlled Substance by Fraud and 13 felony counts of Trafficking in a Controlled Substance.
Task Force Detectives sought an arrest warrant on John Windham at the conclusion of this investigation. Windham was arrested on the warrant on March 6, 2012 without incident. Windham was booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility and is being held without bond.
Additional charges and arrests are possible as this investigation moves forward.
