On Wednesday, August 31, 2011, three Columbia County residents were arrested on burglary related charges.
The Lake City Police Department was actively investigating an armed robbery at the Bank of America on U.S. 90 West. Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Slade McCardle was searching the area for the suspect’s vehicle. Deputy McCardle observed a vehicle, matching the one described by the robbery victim, parked at the Jasmine Inn motel on Knights Avenue. Deputy McCardle plainly saw a spent bullet casing in the Dodge pickup truck. A male subject exited one of the hotel rooms and Deputy McCardle made contact with him. The subject, Johnny Robinson, told McCardle that the truck was his. Deputy McCardle received permission from Mr. Robinson to look inside the vehicle. Deputy McCardle discovered three semi automatic handguns inside the pickup truck. A records check showed that Mr. Robinson was a convicted felon and is forbidden from possessing firearms.
Deputies notified LCPD of the robbery suspect and vehicle location. Deputies made contact with the other persons inside the hotel room occupied by Robinson. Upon receiving consent to enter the room, Deputy Brian Rix immediately noticed several purses in the room that were reported stolen earlier that same day.
Columbia County Sheriff’s Deputies have been investigating several vehicle burglaries over the past few days. The suspect (s) had stolen firearms, purses and electronic equipment from vehicles parked in subdivisions in central Columbia County. Detectives and Deputies with the Sheriff’s Office are still actively investigating these burglaries and additional charges are likely to be made.
