On Thursday, April 7, 2011, a man was arrested for burglarizing a local business. TAW/Lake City Service Center’s warehouse was burglarized during the overnight hours of April 6-7, 2011. The suspect (s) stole approximately 1200 pounds of copper wire from the business.
Deputy Winston Warner was conducting a follow up investigation and discovered one of the suspects attempting to sell the stolen wire to a local salvage company. Deputy Warner arrested Stephen Cherry without incident. Two unidentified males that were with Cherry fled the scene on foot and were not apprehended. Deputies are continuing their investigation and additional arrests are pending.
The value of the stolen and recovered copper wire is estimated to be over $4,000.00. Stephen Cherry was booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility on Burglary, Dealing in Stolen Property and Grand Theft charges. He is being held on $41,000.00 bond.
