On April 4, 2011, two people were arrested for burglarizing the Columbia County School Board Maintenance Facility.
At approximately 9:20 p.m., concerned and observant citizens saw a suspicious vehicle parked near the school bus maintenance facility at 218 NW C.R. 25A. The citizens contacted the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office. While CCSO Deputies were enroute, the suspicious vehicle left the area. The concerned citizens advised responding Deputies Keith Spradley and Brian Lucas of the direction of travel. Sgt Keith Heston of the Lake City Police Department was able to locate and stop the suspicious vehicle at S.R. 100 and U.S. 441.
Deputies were able to determine that the two suspects drove to the maintenance facility with the intent to steal scrap metal. The stolen scrap metal was to be sold for cash. Deputies were able to recover a small amount of stolen metal from the suspect’s vehicle. Deputies also discovered a rife, numerous knives and a Kevlar bullet resistant vest in the vehicle. Both suspects were arrested without incident and transported to the Columbia County Detention Facility.
The continued partnership between the citizens of Columbia County and the Sheriff’s Office has again solved a crime in progress and the subsequent arrest of two suspects.
