On Thursday, February 3, 2011, a Columbia County man was arrested for three counts of 1st degree murder.
Columbia County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to 1506 S.E. Baya Drive, Lake City, FL at approximately 12:00 a.m. Deputies discovered three adults, two women and one man, in the home that were deceased. Detectives and Crime Scene Technicians with CCSO initiated a homicide investigation.
Detectives have arrested Alan Lucas Strattan and have charged him with three counts of 1st degree murder. He was taken into custody without incident.
The names of the victims are not being released pending notification of next of kin. The Office of the Medical Examiner in Jacksonville, FL will determine the cause of death. Autopsy results should be available in the next few days.
Detectives were able to recover a firearm, near the crime scene, that was possibly used during the homicides. The evidence will be sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for further forensic examination.
It is believed that an argument occurred shortly before the shootings. It is unclear at this time what facilitated the argument.
Victim Nicole Cervantes was believed to be 5 to 6 months pregnant at the time of her death. The Office of the Medical Examiner will make the determination during their examination. A five year child of Nicole Cervantes was present in the home when the homicides occurred. The child was not harmed and is currently in the care of her grandmother. Detectives have spoken with the young girl after she was medically evaluated at a local medical facility.
Following the shooting, the suspect took the 5 year old girl and drove to the Lake City Police Department. He indicated that he had shot three people at his home. The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office responded to LCPD and immediately transported the suspect to the Sheriff’s Office Operations Center.
