On Monday, January 24, 2011, a Columbia County man was arrested for burglarizing Richardson Middle School.
Richardson Middle School was burglarized at approximately 2:00 a.m. on Saturday January 22, 2011. The suspect entered several classrooms and offices at the school. The suspect stole a small sum of U.S. Currency and fled the school. Deputy James Finnell, SRO at Richardson, viewed the surveillance from burglary. With the assistance of School Board personnel, Deputy Finnell was able to identify a suspect. Deputy Finnell made contact with the suspect at his home. Deputy Finnell received a confession from the suspect that he had indeed burglarized the school and stole a small amount of money. The suspect, Joshua A. Hauss, was arrested without incident and transported to the Columbia County Detention Facility. Hauss is being held without bond on one county of Burglary and Petit Theft.
Detectives with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office are examining previous burglaries in the county to determine if Hauss is a suspect in those crimes. Additional charges are pending against Hauss. The close working relationship between the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and the Columbia County School Board brought this case to a swift closure.
