On Thursday, December 2, 2010, three Columbia County men were arrested for burglarizing a local metals recycler.
Deputies with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office were investigating three recent burglaries to Sapp’s Salvage. The recycling center was burglarized three times since Sunday, November 28, 2010. Employees at Sapp’s Salvage reviewed surveillance video from the business and were able to identify the suspects.
Deputy Sheriff’s Sean Sikes, Cpl Skibo Horne and Jay Swisher made contact with one of the suspects (Donald F. Waldron) at his home on 12/2/10. Waldron confessed to Deputies that he had stolen copper from the business with the help of two other men. The other two suspects were contacted and both confessed to the burglaries as well.
It is estimated that over 100 pounds of copper was stolen over the three burglaries with a value of over $300.00. All three suspects were arrested without incident and booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility. Deputies expect to make additional arrests as this investigation moves forward.
The Deputies familiarity of the suspects in this case was a significant factor in these arrests being made so quickly and for bringing this case to a successful closure.
