On Thursday morning, February 25, 2010, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Deputies held a career day with the kindergarten classes at Columbia City Elementary.
Deputy Sheriff Jimmy Finnell and Deputy Sheriff Don Meyer spoke to the kindergarten and explained what it is like to be a Deputy Sheriff. The children were allowed to ask questions and were educated about 911, seat belts and other safety issues. After the classroom session, the children were allowed to go outside and were shown two Sheriff’s Office Patrol vehicles. The children really enjoyed turning on the lights and sirens.
The School Resource Deputies with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office have a full time presence in our county schools. The deputies work very hard at establishing positive relationships with students at all grade levels. The Deputies are able to get to know the students throughout the school year and they take great pride in being role models for our youth.
